The old joke is What's the difference between Irish and Scottish dancing? About 6 pints and 6 shots of whiskey! Teehee, but jokes aside, they both have a version. The main difference is the fact that the dance you are referring to for Scot's is called a Sword Dance, it's origins being just that, from a warrior celebrating by dancing over swords. There are differences in attire of course, Scot's wearing the kilt, and Irish wearing outfits based on the book of Kells. The Irish version can also be compared more with tap dance, and the Scot's version can't really be compared with anything, although some say that's where Ballet found it's origins.
